Melanie Royals

A self-taught artist and entrepreneur, Melanie Royals enjoys a reputation as a leading innovator, designer, artist and educator in the decorative finishing and decorative concrete industries.

As the founder and creative force behind Royal Design Studio since 1994, and Modello Designs since 2003, Melanie has shared her vast experience, ideas and passion for artistic surface decoration through numerous television appearances, books, speaking engagements, instructional DVDs, websites, her Design Amour blog, and many Workshops.

Royals has pioneered many “signature” looks and decorative treatments with Royal Design Studio stencils and Modello Decorative Masking Patterns that have become industry staples, helping countless decorative artisans to achieve greater artistic and financial success.

Beyond her reputation as an ongoing artistic pioneer, Melanie has also garnered much respect in the industry as an accomplished businesswoman. With a focus on creative marketing and attention paid to everything from elegant designs to stylish presentation to exemplary customer service, Royals sets high standards for herself and her companies and then strives to exceed them.

Melanie’s books include Trompe L’oeil Murals Using Stencils, Painted Illusions, Decorative Finishes Inspired by the South of France, and Modello by Design. Her Extraordinary Stenciled Effects program (series of 11 instructional videos, book, recipes and workshops) has educated thousands. Melanie was also hired by Modern Masters in 2006 to create a similar program of patterns/techniques exclusive to that company. Melanie’s work has been published in many national shelter and trade magazines and she contributes regular articles to The Faux Finisher. She is co-founder of The Art of Living. She has served on the board of the International Decorative Artisans League, and is a current member of that organization, ASID, and Ladies Who Launch.

Melanie continues to seek new ways to help the decorative industry and its members grow in size, scope, and success. She created this Design Your Success website and program in early 2010 to help achieve that goal!
